Taman Negara National Park is located 220km or around 3.5 hours by car from Kuala Lumpur. Taman Negara National Park covers an area of 4343km2 across 3 states of Malaysia - Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu. The park is made up of some of the oldest rainforest/jungle in the world dating back 130 Million years. The are a variety of animals, including over 200 mammals, that are found in Taman Negara, many of which are endangered. These include the Asian Elephant, crab-eating Macaques, Indochinese Tiger, leopards and the Sumatran Rhinoceros. There is also diverse species of birds including the large hornbills. Gunung Tahan, found in Taman Negara National Parl is the highest mountain in mainland Malaysia. Tahan River travels through the National park and is ideal for white water rafting. Trips can be arranged for beginners and experienced rafters. Pahang River is the longest river in mainland Malaysia. Each year they hold a bamboo rafting competition on the Pahang River. The main park headquarters are located within Pahang. Close by to this they have built a canopy walkway which allows you to walk through the tree tops looking down into the jungle. There are a series of limestone caves called the Kota Gelanggi Caves. There is a golf course not far from Taman Negara National Park, located 15 kms from Jerantut Town, Pahang. Close by to here is Lata Meraung Waterfall. Getting to Taman Negara Malaysia By boat Boats leave from the Kuala Tembeling Jetty which take you down river to the Taman Negara National Park. By bus There are regular bus services from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Tembeling in Pahang.
