Sibu is located in Sarawak East Malaysia (Borneo). Sibu town grew dramatically in the 1970s due to the timber trade. The Rejang River which is 350 miles long, travels though the centre of Sibu. You will find night markets at the Lembangan Markets located between Mission Road and Channel Road next to the Lembangan River. There are over 700 stalls selling a variety of goods including clothes, fabrics as well as food and sweets. Sibu Gateway The Seven Story Pagoda, one of the largest pagodas in South East Asia, is located next door to Tua Pek Kong Temple. It is located on top of a hill overlooking Sibu town.. Bukit Aup Jubilee Park is located 12km outside of Sibu. The park was opened in 1993 for leisure activities. There are public barbeques available. Getting to Sibu Sarawak Malaysia By Plane The following airlines have flight to and from Sibu's airport. The airport is located 20kms from the centre of Sibu. There are buses and taxis available. Air Asia have direct flights from Sibu airport to Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur and Kuching. www.airasia.com MASwing's is a small regional airline that operates flights from Sibu to Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Miri. www.maswings.com.my Malaysian Airlines have flights into Sibu with connecting flights all over Malaysia and the rest of the world. www.malaysiaairlines.com By boat Sibu's Express Boat Terminal have boats traveling between Sibu and Kuching as well as up the Rejang River to Song, Kapit and Kanowit and also as far as Belaga during the rainy season when there is another water in the river to pass that far.. Ferries to Kuching take around 4.5 hours. By bus Sibu's main bus terminal is located on Penrissen Road. Buses to Kuching take around 8 hours. Buses to Miri take around 7.5 hours. Buses to Bintulu take around 3.5 hours. Buses to Mukah take 3.5 hours. Buses to Sarikei take around 1.5 hours. Buses to Kanowit take around 1 hour.
