Miri is located in the northwest corner of Sarawak East Malaysia (Borneo) close to Brunei. Miri is the second largest city in Sarawak, after Kuching, with a population of around 300,000 people. The largest industry in Miri is oil production. Majority of tourist attractions are outside of Miri including the Gunung Mulu National Park which has the largest cave in the world. The Gunung Mulu National Park is half an hour away by plane or 6 hours by bus and boat. The bus takes you along the Miri-Brunei Highway then you get a boat up the Baram River and then up the Tutoh River which takes you to the Gunung Mulu National Park. There is a small airport at the entrance of Gunung Mulu National Park, see below for flight information. Closer to Miri are the Loagan Bunut National Park, with the largest lake in Sarawak, Lambir Hills National Park (32kms south of Miri) and Niah National Park (100kms from Miri) with another network of caves. In Miri you will find an impressive Chinese Taoist Temple. Each year in May Miri holds an International Jazz festival.
