Ipoh is the forth largest city in Malaysia with a populate of over 700,000 people, with 70% of the population Chinese. Ipoh is located 200km north of Kuala Lumpur.

The Kinta River flows through Ipoh dividing the city into the Old Town and New Town.

Ipoh relied on tin mining until the mines where closed in the 1970s.

The new theme park The Lost World of Tambun is a theme park built around the natural hot springs. There are water slides and thermal pools for therapeutic bathing.

Around the Ipoh area are many limestone caves. Sam Po Tong Temple is built within one of these caves. One of the largest networks of limestand caves are the Gua Tempurang which are 20km south of Ipoh near Gopang.

By plane

Ipoh's airport is called Sultan Azlan Shah Airport.

By train

There is a regular train service between Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur.

By bus

The main bus terminal is located on Gopang Road in the south of Ipoh.

There are buses that go directly from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur and to Penang which leave every hour.
